About Us

Offering Support to Captive Bred Birds
We only have a small number of birds at the Centre, 26 in total. All birds are of captive origin & their species range from: Barn Owls, Tawny Owls, Eagle Owls, Harris Hawks, Buzzards & Falcons. Many have been handed to us over a period of time as either unwanted pets or birds that have been mistreated by previous keepers.

Offering the birds at the Centre the best!
Housing a small number of birds at the Centre simply allows us the time to concentrate fully on the birds individual care, welfare & training. All birds receive personal care & attention & they are all able to be flown on a regular basis. Taking any of our birds out of the aviaries to be flown is very rewarding, not just for them but also for us & all that meet them.

Offering support to wild Owls
This also plays an important part of our work, by visiting the Centre you will be able to learn about the conservation work we are involved in, this is our way of offering support to Wild Barn Owls & other Owls & Birds of Prey. The counties we operate in are Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Wiltshire & Oxfordshire.

Nest Boxes for Wild Owls
Within prime sites & within good habitat areas in the countryside, the Barn Owl Centre have to date positioned well over 700 nest boxes with many of them now being occupied by Barn Owls, Little Owls, Tawny Owls & Kestrels. All nest boxes we position are individually numbered to help monitor the success of what we call an important housing scheme for Owls & Kestrels. Public Education on Owl Ecology, Welfare & Behaviour

Issues covered at the Centre:

  • Education on Captive Bred Issues: Awareness, rehabilitation, training & issues relating to bird welfare. All birds housed at the Centre play an important educational role to all programs.

  • Education on Wild Issues: Owl ecology, habitat, prey species, Owl Pellets & the importance of nest boxes. All conservation work we take on together with the data we collect whilst out in the field is proving to be of great importance to both Education & Owl Conservation.
